I've seen a few allusions to the GQ photo Christoph had in the recent "Men of the Year" edition, but I didn't see it up anywhere that I can remember.
Beh, worth another post either way, right?
I was farting around in Walgreen's and picked the mag up, thinking, "Hey, isn't Waltz in here?" I had no idea he actually got this nice full-page homage in there. First time I ever bought a GQ!
Here's what the article says, for those of you who don't have it:
Villains are simple. Any actor can tell you that--it's why they fight for the parts. But unforgettable villains? That's another matter altogether. Hannibal Lector. Norman Bates. Nosferatu. Those suckers come along once a decade or so. Which is why we pause to celebrate Christoph Waltz, 53-year-old Austrian television veteran, multilingual expert, on-screen badass. Waltz was plucked out of obscurity by the gimlet-eyed Quentin Tarantino last year and cast as the black heart of Inglourious Basterds. And his Hans Landa, the Jew Hunter--psychopath, erudite sympathizer with his victims, and appreciator of comically oversize pipes--never tipped into cartoonish over-the-top-menace. From the very first scene, Waltz dominated the movie. The world walked out stammering: "Who the hell was that?" The performance has already gotten him a new career--he's the bad guy in next year's massively budgeted Green Hornet--and will almost certainly get him an Oscar nomination. And if that weren't enough to make you hate the man, he's apparently a hell of a guy, too. Just ask his extremely famous co-star: "Christoph is as reveting offscreen as he is on," says Brad Pitt. "He quietly carries an integrity seldom encountered. And he speaks five languages...the bastard."
Note: Can someone please tell me how to do LJ cuts? I can't figure it out, and I didn't want all of this to show up on the main page....
